What is eva/3 Access Migrator?
|
If an MS Access® application no longer fulfils requirements, the desire often arises for a solution with better flexibility and performance, without however having to forego the advantages of a development environment such as that provided by MS Access®.
For a new development, however, it is not necessary to develop the MS Access® application from scratch, as is often the case, but with eva/3 Access converter it can be conveniently converted into an eva/3 Application Builder project. The eva/3 project is then continued with the popular Eclipse and Java development platform.

Convenient and extendible,
After conversion, you aren't left on your own with any old framework complicating the further development of your project. eva/3 Application Builder gives you a wide range of visual tools so that you can conveniently develop your application further.
Database independence,
An eva/3 Application Builder application can be executed with any of the fourteen supported database systems. This gives you freedom of choice for your optimum solution.
Future-proofing and flexibility through platform independence,
Regardless of whether it's Linux, Mac OS® or still MS Windows®, an eva/3 Application Builder application can run on any operating system offering a Java runtime environment.
Centralized application execution,
Make the eva/3 Application Builder application centrally available on a server on the Internet or on an intranet. The application is simply executed as an applet in the Internet browser or from the desktop using Java Webtstart.
Object oriented development with Java,
The Java programming language enables object oriented development with a high degree of reusability, and in particular access to a wide range of open source libraries such as POI (access to Excel files), True Zip (access to Zip archives and folders) or iText (read and write PDF files), to name but a few.
Develop with Eclipse
eva/3 Application Builder is integrated as a plug-in to the Eclipse open development environment. Even if the project specifications require special developments, this is not the end of the product's capabilities. Develop with Eclipse, one of the best known development environments, proven even in large projects.

Firstly all existing forms and reports are converted into an XML format which can be read by eva/3 Application Builder. Of course, all tables and queries are transferred and connected to forms and reports as usual.
Frequently preferred expressions are transferred in their original formats, and are further executed by the Access compatible eva/3 Expression Engine. Of course, new expressions can also be formulated using the same system, or existing expressions can simply be converted. Refamiliarization is scarcely necessary.
The otherwise frequently neglected VBA code® is transferred and already matching Java templates are applied. Only the functionality then remains to be programmed.

Limits to the conversion?
|
ActiveX components are not converted . If, however, you are relying on certain ActiveX components, the implementation may be carried out also with the assistance of the Java Native Interface (JNI). We will be pleased to assist you in this case.
Endless forms are not supported by eva/3 Application Builder, but are converted into a table view. At the moment there is also no support for sub-reports.
Charts in forms and reports are implemented with our free chart component. This is however not included in the eva/3 standard runtime application, but must be additionally integrated. Charts are to be maintained in the converted version.
